Los Muertos Bailan Block Party

The City of Edinburg will host the Los Muertos Bailan Block Party in downtown Edinburg on Saturday, October 21. Activities will spread from the Museum of South Texas History to Edinburg City Hall.

Los Muertos Bailan Party celebrates life, memory and the Mexican and borderlands tradition of Día de los Muertos.

The day will include a community altar and procession, great performances, chalk art competition, steamroller printmaking, amazing food and artisan vendors, and more!

Chalk Art Competition

Bring your Los Muertos Bailan Festival inspiration to our Chalk Art Competition!

  • Prizes are $500 for first prize, $250 for second place, and $100 for third place.

  • Registration is $25 for individuals (5ft x 5ft space)
    and $35 for teams of up to 4 people (10ft x 10ft space).

  • Artwork should reflect the elements that are part of the Los Muertos Bailan Festival.

  • Bring your own chalks and supplies. Tents & waters will be provided.

  • Participants under age 18 must have parental consent to participate.

  • People’s Choice Judging is 5pm-7:30pm. Awards are at 8pm.

  • Check-in on Sat, Oct 21 is 8am-10am for those pre-registered. Walk-up registrations are 10am-11am, if spots are available.

Catrina Fashion Contest

Open to women and girls ages 5 thru adult.

  • Prize for 1st place in 5-10 yr olds is $50

  • Prize for 1st place in 10-17 yr olds is $100

  • Prize for 1st place in adult is $150

  • Costumes must be family-friendly

  • Winners will all be people’s choice via QR code at the event

Vendors (food, merchandise, artisan) interested in being part of this festival can apply online.

Performers interested in participating should register with the Creative Arts Directory of South Texas (it’s our first stop to find great local artists!). Our festivals often feature live performances in music, dance, roving entertainers (fire dancer, stilt walkers, etc), and more.
