City of Edinburg Honors NAvy Week
Edinburg, TX - The City of Edinburg will play a central role in the inaugural Rio Grande Valley Navy Week, January 24–31, welcoming more than 70 U.S. Navy Sailors for a week of public performances, educational outreach, and community service. As part of the Navy’s national outreach program, Edinburg will host signature ceremonies and performances honoring military service and local heritage, with additional events in Mission, McAllen, and Brownsville. A highlight includes Sailors from the USS Gonzalez (DDG 66), named after Edinburg native and Medal of Honor recipient Sgt. Alfredo “Freddy” Gonzalez, who will participate in memorial events honoring his legacy.
As part of the inaugural Rio Grande Valley Navy Week, the City of Edinburg will host a Navy Week Proclamation & Bienvenida on Monday, January 26 at 6:00 p.m. at the Edinburg ACE Center. This special evening will welcome United States Navy Sailors to the community and recognize Edinburg’s role in this national outreach initiative. Navy Week connects communities without a major naval presence to the Navy’s mission through public engagement, cultural exchange, and education. The event highlights Edinburg’s strong ties to military service and honors the men and women who serve our country.
Navy Band and Ceremonial Guard Performance
Please join us for a special performance by the U.S. Navy’s Deck Plate Brass Band and Ceremonial Guard on Tuesday, January 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Edinburg Municipal Auditorium (EMA). This family-friendly event features high-energy music and precision ceremonial honors that showcase Navy tradition and service. As Navy Week launches the Navy’s 2026 national outreach schedule and aligns with the nationwide “Road to 250” celebration leading up to America’s 250th anniversary, Edinburg is proud to serve as a host city connecting the Rio Grande Valley to the Navy’s mission of service, freedom, and national defense.
Stem Engagement
The City of Edinburg will host a STEM Engagement and Book Reading on Thursday, January 29 at 6:00 p.m. at the Edinburg Memorial Public Library. This family-friendly event will feature interactive STEM activities led by U.S. Navy Sailors, designed to inspire curiosity, learning, and interest in science, technology, engineering, and math among students of all ages. The program offers the community a unique opportunity to engage with Navy professionals while celebrating education, innovation, and service during Navy Week.
